Robert Donald Mendiola, Sr., 88, of Kurtistown, died May 11, 2012 at Hilo Medical Center. Born December 16, 1923, in Honolulu, he was a retired Lieutenant for the Honolulu Police Department, security officer for Securitas at Hilo Airport, US Army World War II veteran and member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Friends may call May 25, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a rosary at 7:30 a.m.; visitation from 8-10 a.m.; funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial follows at 11:30 a.m. at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Survived by wife, Annie Mendiola of Kurtistown; daughters, Judy Lane of Waikoloa, Penny Tada of Lihue, Kauai, Debora (Keoni) Inciong of Waipahu, Oahu; sons, Eric Mendiola, David Mendiola and Charles Mendiola, of Kurtistown, Damien Mendiola of Waimea, Kauai, Clyde Mendiola of Waikoloa; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
