John “Sonny” Kaiewe, Jr., 83, of Hilo, died on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at home. He was born on August 7, 1929 in Olaa, Hawaii. He was a retired resource manager specialist for the U.S. Department of Interior at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Church in Hilo; the Hawaii Army National Guard; and Keola Pono No Na Kupuna. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday (May 7, 2013) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Celebration of His Life at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Aloha attire. Survived by, wife, Cecilia Kaiewe of Hilo; son, John Kaiewe, III of Olaa; daughters, Gail Laila (Dominic Anderson) Aguiar of Hilo, Martha Ann K. Aquino of Olaa and Hulali (Paulsmith) Kane of Hookena, Kona; brothers, Oliver (Anna) Fujiyama of Honolulu, Oahu, Archie (Melody) Fujiyama of Keaau, William (Doreen) Fujiyama of Kurtistown, Donald (Karen) Fujiyama of Hilo, Solomon “Solo” (Mary Jane “Cookie”) Fujiyama of Hilo, William “Cowboy” Ahuna of Honolulu, Oahu and Jimmy (Loretta) Jones of Waimanalo, Oahu; sisters, Linda Jones of Honolulu, Oahu, Jennie Kauai MaCadang of Los Angeles, California, Priscilla (Paul) Soto of California, Lei (George) Cabiling of Kona, Nona Weaver of Makakilo, Oahu, Gladys Nakoa of Waimanalo, Oahu and Thelma (Wallace) Readon of Honolulu, Oahu; sister-in-law, Anita Jones of Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
